Marketing Tip #8

Tips to a Successful Booth at an Expo

Have you ever had a booth at a fair, expo, or tradeshow and it didn’t go as well as you thought it would? As HTX Marketing Group finalizes the plans for our first-ever HTX Creatives Expo, read some helpful tips on how to be sure you run a successful booth at one of those types of events:

Are You at The Right Kind of Expo?

It is vitally important to recognize the target audience of the expo you are invited to participate in. You do not want to agree to rent a booth at an expo for a crowd that will not have any interest in what you are offering. For example, you do not want to have a booth selling furniture at a health fair because the crowd that is attending a health fair is most likely not interested in buying furniture.

Ensuring you are at an expo that is also targeting your ideal prospect is the biggest key to having a successful booth at the next expo you are a part of.

Keep It Clean

You want your customers to be able to see what you offer easily without having to search for what it is you are offering. Having a cluttered booth will turn people away from your booth because they will not want to search for something they “might” want to buy. Keeping your booth clean and easy to navigate will help increase your sales and drive more revenue to your business.

If you have multiple displays or a lot of products, organize your booth in a manner that allows it to flow eloquently from one end to the other.

Draw People In

Have you ever been to a fair and walked by a booth that intrigued you, but the person working the booth did not interact with you? If you are working a booth at an expo, you must interact with the individuals who attend. Without basic human interaction, you will not have a successful booth. Here are a couple of examples of how you can draw people to your booth:

1. Offer samples

If applicable, offer samples of your product to entice people to visit your booth. Who doesn’t love free samples?

2. Showcase One Product

Show off your best-selling item! Give someone a reason to stop by as they are walking by.

3. Always Be Present

Do not hide behind your table! Engage with the attendees as they walk by and start a conversation with them.

4. Ask Questions

As people are at your booth, ask them questions. Who are they shopping for? What caught their eye? Their answers could give you insight into what product you are selling that would intrigue them.

Don’t Be Late, but Stay Late

Your booth should be completely set up before the doors are open. You do not want to still be setting up as people start to walk through the doors of the expo. If you are not completely set up, the people that are coming in may not come back to your booth once you are done.

You should also be prepared to stay a little later than the expo is scheduled to end. Just like in any industry, there will be some stragglers that come in 10 minutes before the event ends. Nobody likes to be rushed, so help those who may show up late find something they may be looking for or may like that you have to offer. After all, you are at the event to earn business, right?

Follow Up with Your Customers and Leads

Having a system to follow up with not only your customers but your leads as well is very important. If someone visits your booth but doesn’t buy something that day, it does not mean that they will not purchase something from you in the future. For that to happen you must have a way to follow up with them. There should always be an incentive for someone to give you their contact information (their email address at the very least) so you have the way to follow up with them about any updates your business may have in the future. Offering a discount on their next purchase by signing up for your newsletter is a great way to build your subscriber list. It is just as important for you to follow up with customers who do buy from your booth at any event you attend. If someone purchased a product or service from your booth, then they are a hot lead for any new product or service you may offer in the future.
