Marketing Tip #1

What does "boosting" a post do on Facebook?

Did you know that boosting a post on Facebook only helps your engagements? Engagements are counted when somebody "likes," comments, or shares a post from your business page. Having a daily budget to boost a post on your Facebook page will mostly show that post to people who already follow your account or have "liked" your page. It can show your post to people who do not currently follow you, but you have to know exactly who to target in Facebook's built-in targeting options.

If you are wanting more engagements, boosting your post is a great option because it gives you the opportunity to reach people that may be interested in your page and/or the services and products you have to offer. If you are wanting your prospects to take action (schedule an appointment, purchase a product, etc.), then boosting may not be the best route to take.

Don't worry, boosting a post isn't all that bad. You can still reach the right people as long as you know who your target audience is. If you know who your perfect prospect is, then you can target them based on their age, gender, behaviors, and demographics of who you believe would be likely to be interested in your services and products. Knowing this aspect of your prospect will help you drive more traffic to your Facebook page.

How much does "boosting" my post cost?

You can start boosting any of your posts from your Facebook page for as little as $1 per day. Remember, the more room you allow in your budget, the more people your boosted post will reach. Facebook gives you the option to limit your budget based on the amount you want to spend daily. We recommend trying $5 per day and work your way up depending on the results of your first boosted post.

How do I boost one of my posts?

Boosting one of your posts is very easy! Head over to your Facebook page and scroll to the post that you want to promote. Once you find the post you want to boost, click the blue "Boost Post" button at the bottom of your post. Next, Facebook will ask you what the goal of your boosted post is. You can select from the following options:

Automatic - This allows Facebook to select the most relevant goal based on your page's settings.

Get More Messages - This option will show your boosted post to the people who are most likely to send you a message on Facebook (or WhatsApp if enabled).

Get More Engagement - This will show your ad to the people who are most likely to interact with your post ("like," comment, share, etc.).

Get More Website Visitors - This will direct the people who click on your ad to the URL you want them to visit. This is a good option if you are wanting to provide people with more information on a certain product or campaign.

Get More Leads - This will generate a form to collect people's contact information from prospects that want to be contacted by you based on the service or product that is listed in your post.

Get More Calls - This option will show your boosted post to people who are most likely going to call your business based on the product or service you offered in your post.

When you select the kind of goal you want, you will be able to select a call-to-action (CTA) button that will be placed on the post, the audience you want it to be shown to, how long the post should be boosted for (number of days and the times in which it should run), and then finally you will be able to select the amount you want to spend on your post daily.

Depending on your overall goals for your post, boosting can work, but you may want to weigh the differences between "boosting" a post and publishing a Facebook Ad.
